About the test

Amenorrhea, the loss of three consecutive menstrual periods during reproductive age, can often be the result of complex hormonal issues.

The Amenorrhea Profile assesses the cause of amenorrhea through measuring LH (Luteinising Hormone), FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone), Prolactin and Oestradiol.

LH and FSH work together to regulate menstruation and ovulation, and the interaction between both hormones can help to identify the root cause of amenorrhea. Elevated levels of LH and FSH can suggest ovarian abnormality, whereas normal or low levels can suggest pituitary or hypothalamic abnormality.

Amenorrhea can also be the result of lowered oestradiol levels, often due to high stress levels or excessive exercise, or elevated prolactin, referred to as hyperprolactinemia.
